Preschool Curriculum

At Immanuel Lutheran Preschool, we strive to offer a quality, nurturing, and productive learning environment for your preschooler.  Your child will have the opportunity to learn and play with his/her peers in a variety of different ways.  Various activities, both teacher led and student initiated, will allow for your child to grow into an independent preschooler.  Our curriculum is based on the concepts of STREAM (science, technology, religion, engineering, art, and mathematics).  Every month we will have a different theme broken down into weekly lessons.  Some topics covered throughout the school year include ‘Improving the Places We Live and Work’, ‘Thinking Outside the Box’, ‘Cutting-edge Inventions and Ideas’ and much more!  This approach will allow us to spend a great deal of time on different projects, reading, and play related to each topic.  When appropriate, special activities will be incorporated into our day (special snacks, visitors, activities etc…).

Included in the daily program are opportunities to hear Bible stories, to learn prayers, and to sing songs with Christian focus. We celebrate all major Christian holidays. Children will have opportunities to participate in worship and thanksgiving to God for His grace to us.

Art experiences are usually free and unstructured encouraging freedom of expression. Activities may include cutting, pasting, chalking, crayoning, making mobiles, and collages, and painting.

Language Arts
Our program encourages receptive language skills such as listening, following directions, visual and auditory discrimination, reading readiness and an appreciation of good literature.

Program consists of many and varied opportunities for free exploration for the children. Freedom to count objects, sort and classify, weigh and measure are all prerequisites for the development of math concepts such as sets, numbers, and perception of space and shape, and the development of other concepts.

Music and Rhythms
Our selection of instruments, tapes, CD’s, and songs encourage musical rhythmic participation. Music is an international language and appeals to children of all ages.

Our science program helps children to observe cause and effect and to relate seasons and weather to everyday life experiences. Three areas in life science we explore are plants, animals, and people, and the basic needs each has for life.

Physical Fitness
This program contains activities for the development of large and small muscles. Fun ways to develop coordination include blowing bubbles, finger plays, and other various activities. Music is frequently used as part of the activities.

Social Studies
Our children learn about themselves, their own personal worlds, their families, their school, and their local community. Later, this learning is expanded to include the world community of different countries and languages, customs, and cultures. We encourage parents to share with us customs observed in their families.
